Welcome to Little Sweet Holistic Wellness! I’m so glad you’re here. I’m Blair, the founder of Little Sweet — a space where whole body nourishment is considered from the ground up. My work combines holistic nutrition with sustainable gardening, all supported by the latest and peer-reviewed scientific research. I created this blog to share tools, stories, and support for those looking to live more in tune with their body, food, and the Earth.

Welcome!

TLDR: My name is Blair, and I love combining sustainable agriculture with holistic nutrition. The two actually go hand-in-hand. If you’re interested, I can meet you where you are in your nutrition journey, whether that’s just nutrition help or if you’d also like to work on a small healing garden in your own space - I’ve got you.

Hi, my name is Blair, and I’m a procrastinator. If you’re like me, welcome. If you’re not familiar with the very busy world of the procrastination cycle - how? I started my journey with holistic wellness at a farming conference. I was in college, and for some reason, I was genuinely attracted to sustainable agriculture. I built as many semesters around sustainable ag classes as I could find - a somewhat difficult feat at a small state school back in the 2010s. Anyway, at this conference, there was a speaker who gave a class on holistic nutrition and explained that it’s very similar to sustainable agriculture in almost all ways - sources matter, synergy of elements matter, and intention matters.

From there, I went to grad school for holistic nutrition at the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, where the classes were almost all taught by Naturopathic doctors. I loved it because they mixed the woo with the hard science. And after that, like so many graduates, I didn’t know what to do. I froze and took the first farm job I was offered to buy myself time and to be honest, to get paid to spend time outside. Turns out, I loved farming so much that I allowed it, and let’s be honest, a healthy dose of fear distract me. I loved being distracted so much that I let that procrastination wave carry me into and right on through a global pandemic. However, I will say that I was able to bulk up on both my farming/gardening and nutrition skills - I just wasn’t ready to strike out on my own yet. In the meantime, I’ve been working as a nutrition consultant for a few years in a Naturopathic Doctor’s office. Now, my partner and I are getting ready to get weird and move into an Airstream so we can pay off our student loans and live a life that is a little more in line with our values. That being said, we’re going to be moving from place to place, and so now I’m ready to combine my years of experience as both a farmer of a small sustainable farm and a nutrition consultant to start my own business, which incorporates both. And now we have Little Sweet (my last name is Doucette, which is French for little sweet)!

How I approach holistic wellness

“Holistic wellness” means growing health from the ground up by combining cutting‑edge scientific research with time‑tested ancient practices—such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic medicine, and sustainable, indigenous‑inspired gardening methods. Whether you’re just interested in building a personalized nutrition plan that works for your lifestyle or you’re looking for a deeper approach from the ground up, I’ve got you!

Why whole foods + gardening matter in healing and thriving

TLDR: Local, sustainably grown foods are more nutrient-dense (more nutrient bang for your buck!) By gardening, you can customize your garden to your own health needs! Gardening is actually super good for most aspects of your health.

Many of our foods from the grocery store come from (at best) several states away or (more likely) from several countries away. This has benefited us when we feel we may need some blueberries in the winter, but has come at a cost - not only the environmental cost, but also a growing nutrient disparity between locally grown organic foods vs. imported foods.

Growing your own food also allows you to customize your garden and what you grow to align with your health needs (or those of your loved ones). You want to focus on keeping your children healthy during back-to-school bug season? We can focus on building an herb garden that boasts immune system-boosting herbs as well as ones that work to fight fevers, sore throats, and runny noses. More interested in focusing on your gut health? We can design a garden that is full of herbs, fruits, vegetables, and edible flowers that will work harmoniously to support your gut health.

Even if having local, organically-grown food isn’t extremely appealing to you, gardening as an activity is super beneficial - from increasing your daily movement to higher vitamin D levels and increased brain stimulation, and even exposure to various bacteria found in soil that have been shown to release serotonin!
